Walk Around the Greenbelt

In late May, I took the kids on a walk around the greenbelt in Idaho Falls. We tried this last year and Max crashed his bike early on the walk. I was pushing Logan’s stroller and had no way to help him with his bike too. So, we gave up and went home.  Ever since, the kids have been begging me to take them back. Finally, we tried it. Max decided to just walk this time and Bria took her scooter. The weather was beautiful and the kids did really good keeping up! It’s almost 2 1/2 miles all the way around. We took lots of beautiful pictures on our walk.

Logan got to go to school

Near the end of the school year, Bria had a talent show and I was also supposed to help in Max’s class. I normally left Logan to be babysat, but I took him with me. He loved it. Loved, loved it.

We went to Bria class first. Logan had a little bit of a hard time sitting still and watching the talent show. So, after a while, we headed over to Max’s class. He liked it there even better! Max’s teacher was the best ever. She included Logan like he was a member of the class. She even took him out to recess! It was so fun to watch him interact and participate with these older kid!

Bria’s Field Trip

Oh, man! I’m so behind on our blog! We’ve been super duper busy since school got out. It seems like every day blends with the next. I need to get caught up on this blogaroo before I get even more behind!

Back to the end of school. I wanted to go with both of our school age kids on their field trips, but Bria’s was scheduled for the same day that Max had his kindergarten graduation. So, I had to miss it. I was really sad.  To make up for it, I sent Bria to school with our little point and shoot camera to take pictures. Most of them came out blurry. But, Bria told me in-depth what every photo was about. She is too funny!

The second grade went to the Legacy Flight Museum in Rexburg. I’ve never been before, but now I really want to go. Afterward, they went to the movie theater and learned all about how movies are played. Then, they go to watch the Chipmunks. She had a blast!  She only brought pictures back from the Flight Museum for some reason.

Chicken Update

I know that everyone is dying for an update about our new pets. I kind of left a cliff hanger in my last post about the chickens. Will the 2-year old kill them? Will the cat eat them for dinner?

Luckily, our chickens seem to be doing fine. Logan quickly lost interest with them and pretty much leaves them alone. Even when he does decide to bother them, he just tries to pet one of their heads. They seem to always know when he’s coming and instantly freeze up. As for the cat, I’ve trained our kids pretty well to keep the doors closed. It will hopefully keep happening when the chickens are moved outside this summer. I knew I had done a good job of training the kids when I went outside the other day and Logan yelled at the door. “Mom, come in, come in. Cat eat chickens dinner.” I wonder what will happen when he puts together that the chicken we eat for dinner is another form of the chickens we have as pets. I guess I’ll cross that bridge when we get there.

It’s been really educational having the chickens, too. Did you know that chicken manure is considered one of the most amazing fertilizers? Some people keep chickens just for that reason. Thankfully, despite the learning curve, they’ve been pretty easy to take care of.

Oh…and we found out what kind of chickens they are. We got in touch with the egg supplier and they said they are a Bantam blend. They’re not purebred chickens. They are small chickens and will lay small eggs (hopefully they’ll start laying when they’re around 4 months old). They are still pretty small, but I’m amazed at how quickly they’ve grown and changed. I would estimate that they’ve at least quadrupled in size.

I’ve been taking pictures every week. Want to see the progress?

Here they are at one week:

Two weeks:

Four weeks:

And finally, five weeks. We took them outside for the first time today.

They’re still pretty little. And they still cheep, so technically they’re still chicks. But they can jump pretty well, now. It won’t be long before we have no choice but to move them outside.

They look so completely different than they did as chicks.

Here’s Sonic:

And this has been in the last 4 weeks. Dave brought them home May 3rd. And I thought my babies grew up fast!

Next step…get a chicken coup.
