More About Logan

I can't believe how fast Logan is growing and changing. I try to watch and memorize him as much as I can because I know how short this time will be. So, here is an update from the last few days:

We gave Logan his first bath. Bria and Max were so excited to be an audience for him. They are both so fascinated by watching everything about this tiny baby. Logan on the other hand was less than pleased with his experience. He screamed and cried through the whole thing. But, it was just too cute to watch.

Our Relief Society was very kind and brought over an adorable blanket that is stitched with his name and birth date. I love it. What a nice gift.

Logan is definitely getting his own little personality. He mostly sleeps, but is starting to become more and more aware when he's awake. He has decided that he does not like to sleep in his bassinet. He occasionally will sleep in his car seat, but has decided hands down that day or night, sleeping right by mom is his very favorite place. Right now, mom is so tired that any amount of sleep is better than trying to convince a 1 week old baby that I am right and he is wrong. He has also decided that he does not like to sleep in a pitch black room. He would much rather have a dim lamp on so that when he is awake in the middle of the night, he can look around and discover the world at his heart's desire. Again, another thing that mom can live with as long as I can get another few minutes of sleep. My favorite thing that he likes is snuggling right next to my face. No matter how upset he is, if he and I are cheek to cheek, he calms down immediately. I love it! I love having a baby in the house again.

Sibling Sleepover

Tonight my mom, brother, his girlfriend and my aunt are all coming. The problem is we don't have that many extra places to sleep, so we came up with a solution. Bria and Max got to have a sleepover in the family room downstairs. We went to the Redbox and they got to pick a movie (The Tale of Desperaux), we had pizza and ice cream for dessert, and they got to have their very own sleepover. Max was so funny - after we told him the plan, he continually asked all day if it was time to start the sleepover yet. (Ummm......4 o'clock might be a little too early. So, I made them wait.) Then when the time finally came, he fell right to sleep. I guess he took the "sleep" in sleepover quite literally.

I got dressed in all kinds of stuff!

Max tries very hard to be as grown up as he can be. If he can do something by himself, he absolutely refuses any kind of help. He is, after all, a big boy. Yesterday morning, I looked down the stairs and there was Max in his pajamas. He looked up and said "Mom, I'm not coming upstairs until I'm dressed." 10 minutes went by - just enough time for me to forget that he was even getting dressed - and Max proudly walked up the stairs exclaiming "Mom! I just got dressed in all kinds of stuff!" He really knows how to make his mom smile.

This post is really long overdue since Logan is already a week old. But, we've been spending the week resting, readjusting and getting to know the newest member of our family.

Last Thursday turned out to be a really big day for our family. It was Bria's first day of school and the day Logan was born. We all got up really early, walked Bria to the bus stop and then headed off to the hospital. I had a scheduled induction because of a few things. The most important reason for me was because Logan was sitting so low. He dropped down too early and it was very, very painful to carry him that low for so long (6 weeks!). The reason the Dr. wanted to induce was because he suspected that the baby was sitting on my gall bladder and that is apparently a very serious condition. I don't know for sure if I did have the condition or not, but I was experiencing symptoms and the Dr said what little they do know about it is that it can lead to still birth. Definitely don't want that. So, induction it was.

It was very different having a baby this way. A lot less panicky and confusing. The Dr broke my water and then started me on pitocin about 11:15 and just kind of let me go. As soon as the contractions got painful, I got an epidural. And then more waiting. The hardest part was not eating. We were supposed to be there at 8:30 in the morning, but got pushed back a little bit. I had breakfast about 6 or 6:30 in the morning. So, I was pretty starving all day. By the time I finally did get to eat, we figured that in 26 hours, all I had eaten was a bowl of cereal. I was really shaky during the labor, which I have been with all of our kids. But, this time I was shaky for 7 hours straight. As soon as I could finally eat, I started to calm down.

We are so happy to have Logan here. He is such a good baby so far. He sleeps, sleeps some more, eats, more sleeping and occasionally needs a diaper change. The kids are also adjusting well. Bria told her kindergarten class about her new baby brother and how cute he is. She is such a help with taking care of him. If I ever need a diaper or a change of clothes, she is right on top of it. She loves holding Logan and will every chance she gets. Max on the other hand is adjusting a little bit more like a 3 year old boy - he really couldn't care less. He tells people that "the baby came out of my mom's tummy - see?" and was sure to show Logan where his bed was going to be (probably so Logan wouldn't think that Max's bed was his - these things are important after all). But other than that, it's life as normal for Max. He doesn't care that Logan gets more mommy time and pretty much just does his own thing. I thought he might have a little more jealousy, but he's adjusted to his new role as big brother quite nicely.

First Day of School

I can't believe Bria is already a kindergartner!!! How did she grow up so fast?!? She officially started school last Thursday, but she's only been two days so far. Her school district is trying an alternating kindergarten schedule, so she goes all day every Tuesday and Thursday and every other Friday. We'll see how well it works out. It's a really long day. So far, she LOVES school. When it came time to catch the bus on Tuesday morning, she ran out the door so fast she forgot to give her mom a hug and kiss!! At least she's excited.

Some of her most favorite things about school so far are the monkey bars on the playground and chocolate milk during lunch.

This is one of her first assignments. It's a self portrait. I love the princess dress she's wearing.

Endless Summer

A few weeks ago it was a beautiful evening. We've been so busy lately it's hard to take time to just sit down for a few minutes. But, we all went outside as a family. Dave and I sat on the porch and watched our two incredible kids playing together. It's so fun to watch how well they get along. They really are the best of friends. I love summer. I'll be sad when it's over.
