12 weeks and counting

DISCLAIMER: Before reading this, please know that I am really not complaining. I have this dream of turning our blog into a book/family journal so I am trying to document things that I want to go into that book. There are so many times that I wish I had written about my previous pregnancies. Or, that my mom had documented hers. It would be so helpful right now. So, really, I'm not complaining. Only documenting.

So, I am 12 weeks pregnant now. I feel like this should be some kind of milestone. Isn't this the magical week where all sickness disappears? Unfortunately, mine is still here. Although I will say that I have had a few intermittent good days. I think I wouldn't be surviving at all if I didn't.

This morning I woke up feeling really nauseated. The kind of morning that I have to run and throw up even before getting any food in my stomach. So, I thought I better take my breakfast in bed, which I haven't had to do for weeks. I always take the anti-nausea medicine with my breakfast cereal, so of all meals, I really try to hold that one down. The day just isn't as good if I start by throwing up the very medicine that is supposed to stop me from throwing up.

As I lay in bed, I really thought the kids were being pretty good. They were downstairs playing. At 10:30 I finally decided that I needed to drag myself out of bed and start some semblance of a day. I had to go downstairs and dig through the 7 baskets of clean, but still unfolded laundry, to find some clothes. I peaked in the family room and this is what I discovered:

We have this toy sorting system at our house. We have 3 big toy boxes that are supposed to be equally divided with toys. Every few weeks or so, I trade toy boxes. It really helps the kids not get too bored with their toys. Well, in my state of nauseousness this morning, the kids got all 3 toy boxes out and completely emptied them. At least they had fun. I hope that in 10 years when Bria is 15, I can look back on this and laugh that my daily struggles were so simple.

There is definitely good and bad that go along with feeling sick.
Good: I have found a new love for Food Network.
Bad: I think the Fed Ex guy thinks I'm mentally ill. I'm usually still in PJ's when he comes and he has recently resorted to doorbell ditching the packages.
Good: I'm saving tons of money on makeup.
Bad: We're spending more money on Papa Murphy's, McDonald's or anyone else that can provide a cheap, already made meal.
Good: Plenty of time to snuggle with the kiddos
Bad: Finding out that the kids helped themselves to seconds of cereal, this time topped with chocolate and strawberry syrup (with a goopy trail leading straight to the fridge).
Good: Lots of time to catch up with working on the computer (mostly business stuff that's been put off forever).
Bad: Lots of unfinished, or halfway done chores. Thank goodness for Dave, or our house would have fallen apart.

I know things will get better. And really, it shouldn't be too much longer before I finally feel good again. But, from today it feels like it's gonna be forever. Even 3 more weeks sounds like more than I can bear. I have been sick for 7 weeks now which, if you aren't counting, is all of 2009.

I will say that I have a huge appreciation for moms who have 3 or more children. Some women are really amazing!!! Hopefully I can get there someday myself. But, in the meantime, I'm going to sip on some more Ginger Ale, which I can't decide if it's really helping be less nauseated, but it sure does taste good!

Happy Valentines Day!!

We've had a very fun and simple Valentine's day this year. It's been nice just to relax with the fam!

Bria got a double surprise this morning. Not only did she get her Valentine's treats, but she lost another tooth yesterday, so the tooth fairy again graced her presence in our home. Sheesh! The tooth fairy has had a busy week at the Webster's and Bria has one more loose tooth - although I think this one will take a few more weeks to completely fall out. In the meantime, Bria is adjusting to eating without her bottom teeth. She keeps saying it's hard to bite food....hmmmm....can't image why!

(Aren't these flowers gorgeous?!? Dave brought them home from work yesterday for me.)

Cutting Hairs

Yesterday, I decided that the kids were in desperate need for haircuts. There are some things that I'm willing to spend money one, but, haircuts for our family are one thing that I do myself. Okay, except for me. About twice a year I get my haircut at a salon. I just can't imagine how to actually cut my own hair, or I probably would. When the kids get a little older, I might reconsider and let the professionals have their way. But, for now, I just do the cutting myself.

Max HATES haircuts. No matter how many times we tell him that it will just tickle, he screams all the way through. We have tried having Dave hold him down while I shear as fast as I can - this typically results in an uneven and sloppy haircut. We have tried to bribe him with treats to distract him, but they generally just get coated in falling hair. Not very appetizing! This time, though, he actually did a little better. It was just me....Dave was gone. He squirmed and kicked, but stayed in his chair and let me do the cutting. Not bad - our little boy is growing up!

BEFORE - obvious happiness.....he has no idea what is in store for him!

AFTER - obvious distress. But at least there are no tears this time!

For months now, Bria has begged and pleaded with me to let her grow her hair long. Dave is a sucker for long hair, so he was right behind her begging for the same. Not that I don't love long hair, it is just that Bria's fine strands tangle so easily. It is a major drama fest every time we have to comb her hair. So, for months now, I have been begging her to let me cut her hair shorter so it would be more manageable. But, in the end, she and her dad have won the ongoing battle. Until the other morning when she brought me a pair of scissors and told me that she would like her hair cut immediately! Dave was gone, so I thought I better take my chance while I had it.
BEFORE - this was taken a couple of days ago. Bria went to a birthday party in our neighborhood. It was a Hannah Montana birthday. They got sunglasses, but for some reason she thought they would be more to her liking without the lenses. She wore the new glasses for hours. I thought she looked so cute and funny!

AFTER - Much shorter, but much more manageable! She is also very pleased with the new style. I just have to remember how I always fix it when it's short!

A first lost tooth

I thought that Bria would at least be in school before we had any teeth fall out, so imagine my surprise this afternoon when Bria very proudly announced that she had a loose tooth. I asked to look in her mouth and I was honestly surprised that she hadn't noticed it before. It was very loose - almost ready to fall out. Well, needless to say, Bria was delighted! She danced and sang around the house so much that her dad decided to help her tooth along (thinking this might calm her down). After it was completely out, the excitement only escalated! I wouldn't have thought she knew so much about the tooth fairy, but apparently word has gotten around. So, now she has so many guesses about what the tooth fairy will leave under her pillow. I guess we'll have to see!!!

Welcome to the 21st Century!

So I am really excited. In the mail today I got my new Scooba. I can't wait to try it, but I have to wait 16 hours for the battery to charge. In all reality, if I hadn't been so sick lately, I probably just think this is some sort of new age gimmick, but I am truly excited to have it. I can do the work myself - who needs a robot doing the work for you. But, right now, I do. What is a scooba? Most people have heard of Roombas - they're the little robot vacuums can vacuum your living room for you. Well, a Scooba is even better.....it mops your kitchen floors for you. Its really more like a scrub than a mop. And, it cleans your whole kitchen floor. The whole floor all by itself so you don't have to. At all. Seriously. All you have to do is push the button when you are ready to go. And, after it is finished, you have to rinse out the clean and dirty tanks. And, that's it. No more hand scrubbing my kitchen floors. I am really excited to try it. My kitchen floors need a good cleaning. Today I am glad that we in the 21st century. I can be sick and still have a clean kitchen floor. Now if I could only find a robot that will clean bathrooms.....
