Cutting Hairs

Yesterday, I decided that the kids were in desperate need for haircuts. There are some things that I'm willing to spend money one, but, haircuts for our family are one thing that I do myself. Okay, except for me. About twice a year I get my haircut at a salon. I just can't imagine how to actually cut my own hair, or I probably would. When the kids get a little older, I might reconsider and let the professionals have their way. But, for now, I just do the cutting myself.

Max HATES haircuts. No matter how many times we tell him that it will just tickle, he screams all the way through. We have tried having Dave hold him down while I shear as fast as I can - this typically results in an uneven and sloppy haircut. We have tried to bribe him with treats to distract him, but they generally just get coated in falling hair. Not very appetizing! This time, though, he actually did a little better. It was just me....Dave was gone. He squirmed and kicked, but stayed in his chair and let me do the cutting. Not bad - our little boy is growing up!

BEFORE - obvious happiness.....he has no idea what is in store for him!

AFTER - obvious distress. But at least there are no tears this time!

For months now, Bria has begged and pleaded with me to let her grow her hair long. Dave is a sucker for long hair, so he was right behind her begging for the same. Not that I don't love long hair, it is just that Bria's fine strands tangle so easily. It is a major drama fest every time we have to comb her hair. So, for months now, I have been begging her to let me cut her hair shorter so it would be more manageable. But, in the end, she and her dad have won the ongoing battle. Until the other morning when she brought me a pair of scissors and told me that she would like her hair cut immediately! Dave was gone, so I thought I better take my chance while I had it.
BEFORE - this was taken a couple of days ago. Bria went to a birthday party in our neighborhood. It was a Hannah Montana birthday. They got sunglasses, but for some reason she thought they would be more to her liking without the lenses. She wore the new glasses for hours. I thought she looked so cute and funny!

AFTER - Much shorter, but much more manageable! She is also very pleased with the new style. I just have to remember how I always fix it when it's short!

  1. How cute! I much prefer Lexi's hair short as well. It is so much easier to fix.

  2. Sometimes I fell guilty that we can pay to cut my hair but no one elsas. Emma has never had a hair cut so we'll have to see what happens when she needs one. I don't think I could do her's my self?

  3. You did a great job, I cut Tom's hair and don't worry I still haven't figured out how to cut my hair either.

  4. Great job! I trimmed Ellorie's the other day, but I was too chicken to cut off more than a couple inches. I should just do it. Guess they're both going to lose "the race to grow their hair to the ground."
