Our State Fair

13 years. That's how long I've lived in Idaho. I know. It's hard for even me to believe (especially in the middle of the winter). Time sure has flown by. But in all my 13 years here, I have never been to the State Fair! So, this year, we decided to go.

For being a small state, I think the Fair was GREAT! We went after school so we didn't get to do a lot. Honestly, I don't know if Logan would have held on that long anyway.

First, we stopped by our favorite Face Painters booth. She's painted our kids faces lots of times before and we think she is amazing!

Afterward, we headed over to the petting zoo. It was an amazing petting zoo! They had tons of animals. Big. Small. Some were so big, they scared the kids a little bit!

The kids wouldn't even go near this beast! I think it was the horns.

By this point it was getting late, so we hurried and got some yummy food and then headed to the midway.

We let the kids pick out a prize. They, of course, decided on light sabers.

My awesome friend Emily and her family came to the fair with us. I've know Emily forever. We grew up together and later were college roommates. We were even bride's maids at each others weddings. She's definitely a keeper. There was a small moment when I wasn't sure, though. She really wanted to go on a ride. Not just any ride, but one that went upside down. And she was determined that I go with her. It took a lot of pleading begging on her end, and I finally gave it.

It was such a fun night! Now that our kids are getting older, I hope we go every year!

Give me a B

It's been over a month since I last blogged. I guess it's time to work on catching up again.

We have had the busiest month in the history of busy months! It's been crazy around here!! But, my blogging is so behind, that we first have to rewind to the beginning of September. A time when temperatures were warmer and spending time outdoors was no problem! We have a neighbor who is a cheerleader. She asked if Bria would like to do a little cheer camp they were having at one of the high school football games. Being that our kids literally do nothing extracurricular and also that this was a one day thing, we jumped at the chance to let Bria take part. Plus, her ultimate dream in life is to dance on Shake It Up! so who were we to deny her this opportunity?

It was so fun! The girls went a couple of hours before the football game on Friday and practiced their dance routine. They got pizza and soda (Bria bragged, and thereby accidentally confessed, to Max that she got to try Dr. Pepper). Before the game, the girls got dressed up in their t-shirts and got their hair and make-up done to get ready for their performance.

The girls were performing at the half time show. And, boy were there a lot of people who came! You can tell you live in a small town when the bleachers are full so they let you sit right on the sideline. Logan wanted so badly to get in the game. I had to really work hard at keeping him off the field. The boys had tons of fun playing while we waited for Bria's big moment:

Finally it was time for the big performance!! It was crazy! It seemed like moms from every corner lined up next to the field to get a good picture of their daughter. I took one of Dave's video cameras and recorded Bria in all her cheerleading glory. We looked and looked last night and couldn't find the footage anywhere! Dave was hired to video 3 different football teams and I'm afraid the cheerleading video was mixed up with one of those and was accidentally deleted. I'm really sad. =( But here are a few pictures of our cutie!

Meeting Edgar

We live in a small town. Very small. Like population 3000. Things happen here, of course. Things like a tractor causing a traffic jam. Or, the annual bed races they have down main street (we have yet to go!). But as far as celebrity sightings. It just doesn't happen.

Until now.

Today we got to meet this guy:

That's Edgar Hansen. He's the deckboss on this boat:

On a pretty awesome show called Deadliest Catch.

It's one of our favs.

Our local grocery store brought him in.

And since things like this never happen here. And because we really love the show, we HAD to go meet him

As far as celebrities go, he was way nice. He was laughing with people and giving hugs and signing autographs for everyone. On the show he seems like a nice guy. It's nice to know he really is.

He was very nice and signed two autographs for us. One for Dave so he could take it and hang it in his office at work and one for our whole family.

And in related news. The grocery store had this beautiful cake on display. I'm wondering if it could make it on Cake Wrecks. I love how the ship looks like it's getting wrecked. Maybe everyone waiting in line couldn't resist touching it?

And, I found this super cute video for all you Deadliest Catch fans. Sesame Street parodies Captain Keith Coburn from the Wizard in this piece called "Heaviest Catch"

A little light reading

Logan recently discovered books. He really, really loves them. He'll sit and listen while I read a whole story. He patiently waits for me to turn the pages. In his broken jibberish, he tells me about the pictures. He is often seen carrying a book around the house.

But, tonight was a first. I put Logan in his crib, but I was still waiting for Max to get ready for bed. I left the room and came back to this:

He was so involved with the "story" the he really didn't even notice me taking pictures.

At least for a minute anyway. Sorry to interrupt, Logan.

I'm so glad he loves books!
